Lao American artist spotlight: Vongduane Manivong

Among Lao American visual artists active in the US today is Vongduane Manivong in Texas. You can visit her website at www.vongduane.com .

Her site currently doesn't feature examples of her work drawn from Southeast Asian myth or some of her more abstract pieces she's done over the years. However, those pieces are well worth seeing if you get a chance.

Vongduane Manivong was born in Vientiane, Laos, and came to the U.S. with her family near Dallas in the late 1980s. She discovered her passion and talent for art at a very early point in her life and is one of the few in the Lao American community to currently do work as a professional Lao visual artist.

She works in a variety of mediums, including pastels, oil paint, ink, pencils and photography. In recent years she's focused heavily on representational portraits and figure drawings.

Today,  she does accept commissions and is negotiable on her price depending on the size and complexity involved.

One of her more recent and popular pieces was Sacred Scriptures done in a limited edition print of 15. She was selling these framed prints for $315:

If you were going to start collecting her work, I would definitely take a look at her landscapes, most of which are in the hands of private collectors or not for sale at the moment.
