[Poem] Mythologies

Donna means woman.
Bella means beautiful.
The two together are a deadly poison,
The kissing cousin of nightshade.

Elsewhere, sure as hemlock for
The throats of sages in their curious passage,
Corrupting the freest

      The Void

Howls, a white wolf for your bones,
Who hopes to make soup for the devil
Beside the river stones

Like curveless Pandora for her Titan
Lurking by the curling vine.

From Barrow, 2009

The poet Henry Wordsworth Longfellow was born on February 27th, 1807
