[Poem] The Grass (Thai Translation)

หญ้า

ท่ามกลางทุ่งหญ้าใบเขียวมรกต
แม้แต่ศรีมหาโพธิ์
ยังต้องพึ่งผืนแผ่นดินเดียวกัน

Among jade grass blades
Even mighty bodhi trees
Must share the same earth

Translated by Joy Panigabutra-Roberts, 2012/2555.

"The Grass" first appeared in Tanon Sai Jai, 2009

  1. The beautiful translation of this poem is a classic example of why machine translation is a bad idea. Although it is fast and easy, it allows a lot of room for misunderstanding – which can be quite awkward! Especially when the translation involves a language you don’t actually speak - using a machine is just too risky!

When you are translating something intricate, or professional, the register required is often beyond the capabilities of a machine. Precision is the key in href="Thai translation Thai translation

and while computers are good mathematically, language often requires gentle nurturing in order to best express meaning. Translation is an art beyond reach of even the most sophisticated computer.
