On the Other Side of the Eye: The Book!

My first full-length book of poetry, On The Other Side of the Eye, is arriving this August from Sam's Dot Publishing.

My new book comes out this August!

Naturally, I'm excited about this! So what's it about?

This is the largest assembly of my work from the last 17 years, outside of my two prior chapbooks, Touching Detonations by Sphinx House Press, and The Tuk-Tuk Diaries: My Dinner With Clusterbombs by Unarmed.

On the Other Side of the Eye collects poems of mine from over 60 different journals, projects and publications from around the world, and all-new pieces.

Together, we'll roam the secret wars of the CIA in Laos to the secret edges of the human soul and the universe. Exploring the streets of St. Paul and the ghosts and demons of the past, we'll challenge 'perspective' and assumptions of what is true, what is not.

I'll be discussing more details later, but I want to take the time to thank you, my friends, family and readers, for all of your support and the many inspiring moments between us!

And here's to many more!

So are you going to include the textile background I used from your lovely photos, as the picture shows, or just YKL's work (the center part)??

We're "dying" of curiosity, as you should know.

I want to see the book - and know I can get it somewhere easily reached, more mainstream, as it were, instead of most of my friend's chapbooks and such, where I never know where the he-double-toothpick I can find a physical copy (of their work). Flash it big, so everyone can see the latest asian-american book, everyone!

It'll be great to see a new collection of verse by such an insightful and widely-cultured writer who's doing such pioneering work.

I am totally psyched for this book! Come out to New York and do some readings! Are there any Fallout/Baldur's Gate-inspired verses?

URGENT, ATTENTION, DANGER: all you so called Asian Americanists, literature students and ethnic lit scholars, and assorted get-on-the-truck folks before it's too late for YOU--and the road disappears in the wind or the ashes of the new war: in order to get to the other side you must read Bryan Thao Worra's ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE EYE.

Why is his work dangerous? Like a warrior koan with a dagger and a silk scarf, Bryan slices through murky air and the thicket of confused contemporary writing with his clarity, irony, wit and lyricism. So, his writing is dangerous in the radical and brilliant sense of the word.

Read this work and teach it.

Equal parts pop culture brainiac and soulful political commentator, mad scientist of the word and clear eyed reporter of truth, Bryan Thao Worra has a voice and a story born to be heard, yet he never lets his importance overwhelm his art. I imagine that these great, bristling poems are making this book burst apart at the seams. We should all be glad that his words can be contained on something so flimsy as paper. These poems demand you, and you are better for it.

Please send me an advanced review copy for possible textbook adoption for our visiting authors program when they are available. If selected, we would need 200-700 copies of the text for most of our English classes at ARCC that semester. I am looking forward to reading this long-awaited book! Kate
