If you're in Pennsylvania this week, be sure to check out:
Family Style Open Mic at Asian Arts Initiative!
This fall, Family Style continues to offer the unique experience of sharing stories, song, dance, poetry, and more among Asian Americans and extended "family" from all communities and cultures.
The feature performer this Friday is hip-hop group SNRG! Other special guests include ukulele player Amy Shafer and members of the West-Philly based Olive Dance Theatre.
They'll also be presenting the turntable stylings of DJ Mike Trinh, and a pre-show reception with FREE food and drink for all open mic guests!
Food will be generously provided by Erawan Thai Cuisine - Chinatown (Season Sponsor) and Imperial Inn (Event Sponsor).
Friday September 16, 2011. Pre-show reception at 6:45pm. Open mic starts at 7:30pm
@ Asian Arts Initiative / 1219 Vine Street , Philadelphia, PA. $5-10 sliding scale admission
Created in response to community concerns about racial tension, the Asian Arts Initiative began programming in May 1993 with Philadelphia’s first-ever Asian American Arts Festival: “Live Traditions/Contemporary Issues” at the Painted Bride Art Center. The Asian Arts Initiative has since become a community arts center that offers performances, exhibitions, workshops, and training for artists, youth and adults who share our commitment to community-based arts.
