A short essay of mine on the importance of risks and possibilities was featured at the Loft Literary Center this week. Where do we find the courage to submit to literary journals, competitions or fellowships? What's the process like?
My own literary journey was as much of a rollercoaster ride as the next person's, but I really wanted to encourage people to be resilient. I hoped to demystify some of the processes involved in submitting, because I think fellowships and grants can be very energizing. They get a writer much needed breathing space at the right moment in their life to move to the next level.
Many key grants and fellowship deadlines are coming due this month and next, and again at the beginning of 2012, I hope emerging writers will take heart and add their voice to great literary tapestry of the world. Good luck, and keep writing!
