[Lao Fish of the Day] Pa Tep or Glass Fish

Also known as a Pa Thep or Thin Fish and, according to Alan Davidson, should normally be classified as Oxygaster Oxygasteroides Oxygasteroides although there are many variations of this particular fish.

The Pa Soi is apparently more popular for use in padek, but the Pa Tep is also a common fish for padek. So, this is a pretty important fish for many Lao.

It should be noted that in this case the name Pa Tep can be applied to all sorts of tiny fish in Laos. Most examples of this species should be under 20 cm. The Pa Tep is a form of carp, one of the staple fish of Southeast Asia.

What are some of your favorite memories or stories about this fish? Bonus points for anyone who composes a good poem about the Pa Tep.
